First let me explain that I'm actually currently living in the area of this case so it's a really big deal over here. Second if you have not heard about the Casey/Caylee Anthony trial then let me explain it for you. Basically, long story short there was this lady, Casey Anthony, whose daughter, Caylee Anthony, was missing and then murdered. She was missing for over 24 hours before she was reported and a bunch of other stuff. It's a little foggy as far as evidence goes, but basically Casey Anthony was on trial fighting a death sentence for possibly killing her own daughter. Long story short, there wasn't enough evidence to prove she killed her daughter to order a death sentence and so people on the internet are saying she "walked free."
If of course she actually committed the crime to begin with. The evidence was really inconclusive as far as proving a murder, all it did prove was that the woman shouldn't have been a mother. She wasn't a very good mother, and if anything is good about this it's the law that might come out of it. They are thinking of now making it illegal to wait over 24 hours to report a missing child. I personally don't get why people are getting so worked up over this. Half the people on the internet are happy that the law protects people and the other half are furious that she wasn't giving the death sentence.
My personal opinion is that it's something you can't really do anything about and you can't help. I'm really glad for the addition of the new law, but I do agree that the woman was a terrible mother. There still wasn't enough evidence to give her the death sentence though, not at all. Maybe if it was a certain amount of years in prison or life in prison she would have been given a different answer. That's something to think about, but for now according to the law she can't be tried again so she gets to be free. And it's 100 percent legal, which is a good thing I think.
